Crime reporter murdered in broad day light

SituationsIndia: MUMBAI: What an irony? Senior crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey, who spent most of his reporting career revealing the goings on in the Mumbai underworld, was shot at by four assailants, reportedly from the underworld, near his home in Powai today. He was immediately rushed to the Hiranandani Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Dey was working as Editor, Investigations, for the Mid-Day newspaper.

Talking about Dey’s death, Mid-Day executive editor Sachin Kalbag said, “All of us here are in a state of shock. His loss is tremendous not only to Mid-Day, but also to the science and art of crime reporting."

Kashmiri leaders plea Pandits to come back

SituationIndia: BJP today sought to know as to why the UPA government was not disclosing the names of those who have stashed black money abroad, "despite repeated rebukes by the Supreme Court."

WB Govt to Recognise 10,000 Unrecognised Madrasas

Kolkatta: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the state government has decided to give recognition to over 10,000 unrecognised madrasas in the state.

"We have decided to recognise over 10,000 hitherto unrecognised madrasas in the state," the chief minister told reporters at the state secretariat. She, however, clarified that the government would not take any financial responsibility for them.

She said that the madrasas, once recognised, would be eligible to receive central grants under various schemes.

The new state government has already decided to rename the Aliah University as Aliah madrasa university.

Maoist Rebels Kill 15 Policemen in India

NEW DELHI – Maoist rebels killed 15 policemen and injured three others in attacks during the past two days in India's eastern state of Chhattisgarh, state police officials said Friday.

An overnight landmine explosion triggered by left-wing guerrillas in a forested area in the state's Dantewada district, almost 400 kilometers south of the state's capital of Raipur, killed 10 officers and injured three others, according to Ram Niwas, state police official in-charge of Maoist operations.
The attack came just hours after heavily-armed guerillas, known here as Maoists, killed five security personnel in a pre-dawn ambush Thursday in the neighboring district of Narayanpur, also in Chhattisgarh state.

RSS man plotted attack on co-worker

NAGPUR: In a rare occurrence in the tightly knit organization that prides itself on discipline, an RSS man plotted the assault on a co-worker and that resulted in serious injuries. Police said that rivalry between the two was the main reason for the incident that had put immense pressure on them for the case to be quickly solved.
